Concept: Water is considered to be a symbol of life that has no fixed shape or form, and is in a state of constant flux. This is similar to young travelers being molded and shaped by their experiences and environment. The Modern Hostel is inspired by this fluid ripple effect in water and is designed to reflect the fluidity of it's guests. The wayfinding is based on the rhythm of the Marina Del Rey, with the communal space being centralized, giving emphasis to the connection between guests, community, and the local environment.
We won 1st Place and will be awarded scholarships at the 2016 Calibre Awards in June, plus the opportunity to compete again on different teams at the IIDA West Coast Student Design Charette April 2016 in Seattle, Washington.
